Small etched brass pedestal cup / miniature chalice
$42
PL-000481 · Mid-20th century, likely c. 1950s–1970sA wonderfully diminutive brass pedestal cup with a shallow rounded bowl, narrow trumpet-form stem, and flared circular foot. The exterior is decorated with loosely hand-cut engraved marks—short radiating strokes, small leaf- or fan-like motifs, and spontaneous linear flourishes that give the surface a decidedly handmade character. The brass has aged to a warm, mottled brown-gold with darker recesses and traces of greenish oxidation inside the bowl. Its tiny scale gives it almost the presence of a miniature ceremonial vessel rather than ordinary tabletop ware.Materials: Brass.Origin: Possibly South Asian / Indian manufacture; unmarked, so attribution remains tentative.Maker / marks: No maker’s mark or country-of-origin mark visible.Dimensions: Approximately 3¼–3½ inches high; bowl approximately 2½ inches in diameter; foot approximately 2 inches in diameter.
Condition
Vintage condition with substantial natural patina, oxidation, surface scratching, darkening and evidence of age/use.
A note about vintage
Patina & Light objects have lived before. Small marks, softened edges, surface variation, patina and signs of handling are part of that history. We photograph and describe condition carefully, but we do not expect an old object to look new — nor would we want it to.
Please review all photographs and condition notes before purchasing. Questions, additional photographs and measurements are always welcome.
We believe age should be understood, not erased.
